GE Aviation of Jacksonville and United Way of Northeast Florida joined forces this week to celebrate GE Community Days Tuesday, March 1, and Thursday, March 3. More than 150 volunteers participated in 14 different projects across Northeast Florida designed to promote goodwill and improve local campuses.
“GE Aviation has long demonstrated commitment to our community through giving and volunteerism,” said Brett Rowles, GE Aviation plant manager and volunteer. “These two dedicated days of volunteer projects celebrate through service our unwavering support of United Way, its partners and their collective mission to make Northeast Florida a better place.”
United Way and GE Aviation have partnered to plan GE Community Days for the past six years. This year’s GE Community Days were made possible by a $9,400 GE community-service grant. Together over the years, the organizations implemented more than 100 projects serving more than 30 local nonprofit agencies and Duval County Public Schools that support United Way’s work in education, income and health.
Volunteers focused on improving schools and campuses of United Way-funded agencies, such as Full Service Schools, as well as the home of Frances Alexander, a senior resident in Nassau County. By making improvements at these sites, United Way and GE created safer and more welcoming environments for children and families to receive services that improve their quality of life.
“Year after year, we are so inspired by and appreciative of GE Aviation’s unwavering commitment to improving our community,” said Michelle Braun, president and CEO of United Way of Northeast Florida. “Through landscaping improvements, painting projects and more, the work of GE Aviation volunteers this week will once again help local families live healthier, more productive lives.”
