While the first baseball players have begun reporting to Spring Training, the Jacksonville Suns are continuing preparation for their first season under new ownership. The club recently added four new members to the front office staff, which is preparing for Opening Day April 7 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
The latest additions to the new Suns lineup are Director of Food and Beverage Ernest Hopkins, Food and Beverage Manager Juanita Millhouse, Sales and Marketing Coordinator Ashley McCallen, and Stadium Operations Assistant Jason Jones.
Ernest Hopkins is the Suns’ new Director of Food and Beverage after working as a food and beverage manager for SAVOR Jacksonville. Born in Richmond, Va., and raised in Macon, Ga., he retired from the U.S. Navy after earning two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, four Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, five Good Conduct Medals and a Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
Juanita Millhouse joins the Suns as Food and Beverage Manager, bringing more than 15 years of experience in the food and beverage industry at Jacksonville sporting venues. A Syracuse, N.Y., native, she had several roles at the Jacksonville Jaguars’ home stadium, advancing to sales and marketing department supervisor for Levy Restaurants the last four seasons at EverBank Field. She also worked for SMG Savor before joining the Suns.
“I am thrilled to have Ernest and Juanita complete our food and beverage management team,” said Suns Assistant General Manager of Food and Beverage Mary Nixon. “Their experience and knowledge in the industry will help us create a new fan experience at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.”
Ashley McCallen is the Suns’ new Sales and Marketing Coordinator. A native of Cary, N.C., and graduate of Eastern Carolina University, she completed internships in group services with the Burlington (N.C.) Royals, promotions with the Charleston (S.C.) RiverDogs (Class-A South Atlantic League), and business development for Minor League Baseball (St. Petersburg, Fla.), for which she helped plan and implement the annual Promotional Seminar and Baseball Winter Meetings.
“Ashley is a welcome addition to the new Suns front office team,” said Suns Vice President of Sales and Marketing Linda McNabb. “She will be responsible for fulfilling our corporate partnerships that make Suns baseball a tradition shared by the Jacksonville community.”
Jason Jones is the Suns’ Stadium Operations Assistant. A native of Stormville, N.Y., he earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Tampa and master’s degree from Florida State University. Among varied experience in the sports industry, he has completed internships with the Hudson Valley (N.Y.) Renegades (Short Season Class-A New York Penn League) and Bradenton Marauders (Class-A Advanced Florida State League), who also hosted Pittsburgh Pirates Spring Training. Most recently, he worked in member relations and hospitality at EverBank Field with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“Jason is already helping our stadium operations staff prepare the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville for a fresh opening with the new Jacksonville Suns,” said Suns General Manager Harold Craw. “Our entire staff is looking forward to showcasing the fun and unique atmosphere at the ballpark this spring.”
The Suns will host job fairs for 2016 game day positions at the ballpark Saturday, March 5, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Tuesday, March 8, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
