SBDC at UNF recognizes Performance Excellence Award Winners

The Small Business Development Center at the University of North Florida recently recognized individuals for performance excellence in support of entrepreneurs growing small businesses in northeast Florida. The following awards were given to SBDC at UNF employees and volunteers.

Regional Volunteer of the Year is Linda Hosey of General Services Administration (GSA). This award recognizes regional volunteers for outstanding contributions, for their advocacy, program development and/or special projects, presentation of SBDC workshops and client counseling.  Since 2011, Hosey has played an integral part of the revival of the Jacksonville Acquisition Conference and Tradeshow.  Giving countless hours not only to ensure a successful and well attended conference, but also working with and teaching business owners the basics of doing business with the government.

Regional Certified Business Analyst (CBA) is Cathy Hagan, Certified Business Analyst at the Jacksonville Regional SBDC office.  The award recognizes CBAs for their excellence with resource utilization, client impact and special projects.  Hagan has been employed by the SBDC at UNF since 1995 and has been instrumental in the growth of full-service SBDC offices in St. Johns and Nassau counties.  In 2012 alone, Hagan provided 225 consulting hours to SBDC clients, assisting them in creating or retaining 123 jobs, starting four businesses and obtaining or investing 5.3 million in capital formation.

Regional Employee of the Year is Cheryl Lynch, Certified Business Analyst at the Putnam County SBDC office.  This award recognizes employees for making the greatest contribution to SBDC operations. Lynch began in 2012 as a brand new SBDC employee with a brand new full-service office in Putnam County. She is dedicated to the growth of the business community and has participated training programs, workshops, tradeshows and seminars.  Over the course of last year, she provided 366 consulting hours to SBDC clients, assisting them in starting three businesses, creating or retaining 18 jobs and obtaining or investing $9.4 million in capital formation.

FSBDC Network Florida Star of the Year Finalist is Kevin Monahan, Certified Business Analyst and Special Projects Director at the Jacksonville regional SBDC office. This award recognizes Florida SBDC Network employees whose contributions to the SBDC program are truly outstanding. Monahan started working at the SBDC at UNF in 2002.  He was instrumental in securing funding from WorkSource to present a FastTrac New Venture for Veterans course, forged a partnership with Jacksonville Area Legal Aid to develop a FastTrac First Step for ex-offenders, worked with the Jacksonville Women’s Business Center to develop workshops for Jacksonville Day Care Center providers and pioneered the Nonprofit assistance program in the FSBDC Network.  Monahan received the Florida Innovative Program/Best Practice Award from the FSBDC in 2012 for his work on nonprofit assistance.
