Bud Almas of B3 Solutions receives national honor

2013 Gordon H. Mansfield Veteran Small Business Award

bsec-bud_almas-b3_solutions_-_june_2013On June 11, 2013 in Reno, Nevada, the National Veteran Small Business Coalition presented Bud Almas, CEO of B3 Solutions, with the Gordon H. Mansfield Veteran Small Business Award.

Only one veteran small business owner per year is chosen to receive this prestigious award, given in recognition of owning and operating a successful small business that provides employment opportunities to veterans.  The veteran owner must exemplify, as did the late Gordon H. Mansfield, a selfless manner and a record of giving back to the veteran community in a substantial and continuous way.

As a retired Army Officer and a veteran of the Persian Gulf War, Bud Almas is devoted to making a difference in the lives of the veterans.  In 2011, with revenues of $22.5 Million, B3 Solutions had 19 veteran employees out of total of 131.  In 2012, with revenues of $32.16 Million, B3 Solutions increased its veteran employees to 59 out of total of 165.  Today, veterans constitute 35% of all B3 Solutions employees.

“Nothing is more important than keeping our armed forces fully employed after they finish their service.  They are a valuable asset we cannot afford to disregard,” said Almas, adding that in January of 2013, he made the decision that he wanted to do more.  In addition to the corporate donations already being made, Bud created B3 Solutions’ Veterans Outreach Program.  The program’s goal is for B3 Solutions to be the champion in ‘spreading the word’ and organizing efforts with other corporations and institutions to help the veteran community and their families.

B3 Solutions, an SBA 8(a) certified Small Disadvantaged and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, contributes in the support of the following veteran organizations: Hope for the Warriors, Operations Jump Start, Homes for our Troops, Puppies Behind Bars, The Pathway House, The Wounded Warrior Project, American Legion Department of Florida, The Fisher House, and AFCEA.

“We’re proud that B3 Solutions is headquartered at Beaver Street Enterprise Center (BSEC), Jacksonville’s only core-city business incubator,” said BSEC Executive Director Jackie Perry.  “Several of our most successful small business owners are members of the new Florida 8(a) Alliance, which was founded by Andy Harold, CEO of Andy Harold Associates, a Beaver Street Graduate and now one of our Board Members.”

With several successful veteran small business owners like Almas and Harold headquartered at Beaver Street Enterprise Center, the incubator’s economic and emotional impact on Jacksonville and the entire Northeast Florida area is strengthened immeasurably.   “We agree with Bud that our returning veterans deserve to be honored for their service and employed by caring companies that value their skills,” said Rum Robinson, BSEC Director of Finance and Project Management.  “We all congratulate Bud Almas for the national recognition that comes with the Gordon H. Mansfield Veteran Small Business Award.”
