iStart Jax celebrates Global Entrepreneurship, recognizes Top 10 Technology Startups in Northeast Florida!

iStart Jax Inc, Northeast Florida’s award winning non-profit business accelerator, celebrated Global Entrepreneurship Week 2012 by recognizing the Top 10 Technology Startups of the region. Nominations, invited from the local Tech Startup community, were evaluated on their Market Potential, Product & Validation, Unique selling Proposition, Business Model and the Management team behind the Startups.

The judging panel, which evaluated the nominations and selected the Top 10, consisted of pioneering entrepreneurs in the regional and national startup ecosystem. They included such luminaries as Kevin Riley, CEO of Health Model Innovation Consulting, served as the first Chief Innovation Officer of a major insurance plan and Founder of a national health care retail company, Daniel James Scott, Co-Founder, Gazelle Lab, Tampa Bay Curator for Startup Digest, Associate Director for the Sustainable Entrepreneurship & Innovation Alliance at USFSP and Toni Gemayel, Co-Founder, Banyan, Former Partner at Colomo Ventures.

Awards were given at the celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week, held with the support of Startup Florida. The event also marked the introduction of two new board members by iStart Jax. Honorary Director, Kevin Riley an entrepreneur, health care executive and business model innovator. Kevin has spent his career in the pursuit of creating consumer experiences that drive behaviors, and ultimately actions. He has applied his skills and experiences to start-ups and legacy companies alike, across the health care industry. Kevin started Health Model Innovation Consulting in 2006 to help companies with the convergence of health care and the consumer. He founded and was CEO of a national health care retail company, played leadership roles for several national retail health start-ups, and served as the first Chief Innovation Officer of a major insurance plan. Kevin holds a Masters of Business in entrepreneurship and marketing from Rice University. Another addition to the board as Director is Daniel Fanger, a Jacksonville native, former institutional investment broker with Merrill
Lynch, specializing in alternative investments and at present Financial Markets Specialist at Jacksonville Electric Authority(JEA) and oversees their $6 Billion fixed and variable debt portfolio, manages swaps and cash investment, and strategizes financing structures to meet the $2 Billion Utility’s needs. Daniel Holds an MBA in Finance from University of North Florida (UNF).

Pragmatic Works, founded by Brian Knight and bootstrapped to annual revenue of $12 Million topped the list of Top 10 Technology Startups. Of special note was the fact that three of the Top 10 Startups were from the first Jacksonville Startup Weekend 2012 hosted by iStart Jax in January of this year.
