Hampton Golf announces the acquistion of the course and club at Palencia

Hampton Golf in partnership with Randy Frankel, former Wall Street executive and partner of the Tampa Bay Rays, have acquired the golf course and club assets at Palencia, a 2,350-acre master-planned community in St. Augustine, Fla. The closing was finalized today. The 33,000-square-foot clubhouse and Arthur Hills championship golf course will remain a private, membership-driven club offering high-end amenities and superior customer service under Hampton Golf’s management. Hines, the community’s original developer, will continue to manage the development and sale of real estate in Palencia.

“Palencia is a stunning course and beautiful facility that can rival any club in Northeast Florida,” said M.G. Orender, president of Hampton Golf and 33rd president of The PGA of America. “Our main priorities are to grow the membership and enhance customer service in all areas of the course and club. We empower our employees to make members feel special every time they visit.”

Planned enhancements for the clubhouse include the expansion of food and beverage offerings for members. The renovations will allow for additional private, banquet and open dining options for members, as well as highlight the welcoming and inviting atmosphere where friends and families can socialize. Improvement in conditioning of the golf course is planned for the spring.

An aggressive membership drive highlighting the concept changes under Hampton Golf’s management will be launched soon. Hampton Golf will also work to secure corporate play, tournaments and group outings at the club.

“Hampton Golf has a stellar reputation for providing the highest standard of excellence in design, service and course conditions for the golf clubs it manages,” said Walt O’Shea, managing director of Hines. “The entire community of Palencia will benefit from the growth and enhancement of the course and club, and we are pleased to welcome Hampton Golf and Randy Frankel.” The seller was represented in the transaction by CBRE Golf and Resort Properties.

Hampton Golf has named David Shaffer as general manager at Palencia. Shaffer has more than 20 years of experience in golf course management, the majority of which has been with high-end private clubs and resorts. He has a proven track record for efficiently managing business operations while maintaining high member ratings. Anthony Vaughn has been named head golf professional at Palencia. Vaughn is a Class A PGA golf professional and was previously head golf pro for The King & Bear at World Golf Village. He will officially begin Nov. 14.

Palencia is the third partnership between Randy Frankel and Hampton Golf, along with The Golf Club at North Hampton in Fernandina Beach, Fla. and Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville, Fla. Hampton Golf acquires and manages golf courses and facilities throughout the Southeastern United States and employs more than 1,000 team members, including more than 40 PGA professionals.
