Leadership Jacksonville announces executive director to retire, legacy series to launch Nov. 15

Leadership Jacksonville announces that Executive Director Isabelle Owen Spence will retire in May 2013. Spence has served as the executive director of the organization since 2001. The announcement was made during the annual Reunion Luncheon for Leadership Jacksonville graduates. Honorary Lifetime Members David A. Stein and Albert H. Wilkinson, Jr., M.D. were also inducted and honored during the luncheon and the newest alumni from the LJ Class of 2012 and New Leadership Summit X were welcomed.

Spence is a graduate of the Leadership Jacksonville class of 1987 and volunteered with the organization for many years, including serving on its board of directors from 1999 to 2001. During her tenure as executive director, Spence has overseen the development of several new programs including the annual New Leadership Summit, which launched in 2003, and the College Leadership Experience (CLE), which launched in 2005 under the direction of Meg Folds.

A succession plan for the executive director position is in place and a search committee has been formed to begin recruitment. Interested applicants can learn more about the position at www.leadershipjax.org or via email at ljedsearch@gmail.com.

Also announced at the luncheon, Leadership Jacksonville will launch the Jacksonville Legacy Series, produced by Lindsey Films and airing on WJCT, beginning Nov. 15 with a feature on beloved Jacksonville leader, Dr. Francis B. Kinne, President Emeritus of Jacksonville University. The ongoing video series will showcase some of the region’s most prominent and respected leaders in the First Coast community. After each installment of the series premieres on WJCT, it will be available for viewing on the WJCT website, Leadership Jacksonville’s website and YouTube Channel, Schultz Center website, Jacksonville.com and the Financial News & Daily Record website.

Additional leaders scheduled to be featured in 2013 include Frederick H. Schultz, Ph.D., Alton Yates and former Mayor Jake Godbold.
