Mayor welcomes $95,000 Defense Reinvestment Grant, Enterprise Florida awards $850,000 state-wide grant

Mayor Brown is proud to accept a $95,000 Defense Reinvestment Grant awarded from the State of Florida’s official economic development organization, Enterprise Florida. Governor Rick Scott announced Jacksonville as one of eleven recipients of the $850,000 grant.

The Defense Reinvestment Grant will allow Jacksonville to hire a Washington, DC consultant to advocate for Jacksonville at a federal level to protect and increase Jacksonville’s military footprint. The consultant will meet with the Department of Defense and members of Congress to advocate for more ships, personnel, and other installation needs to foster the growth of Jacksonville’s economy. With an annual impact of $12.2 billion, the military is the largest economic engine in Jacksonville, and the Defense Reinvestment Grant will help leverage more resources to increase its economic impact.

The City of Jacksonville was awarded with the third highest grant amount of all the selected communities with military installations.
