The Blood Alliance names new CEO

The Board of Directors for the Blood Alliance named Valerie Collins, JD, MT (ASCP) SBB, as the new President and CEO of The Blood Alliance (TBA). Collins has been the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of TBA since April 2000, and will take over the reins from retiring CEO, Dale Malloy, in October 2012.

Collins’ experience is deep and vast both as a specialist in blood banking and a lawyer. She began her blood banking career with Baptist Medical Center’s Blood Bank (Jacksonville) in the early ’80s and held various leadership positions at St. Luke’s Hospital (Jacksonville) and the St. Johns County Blood Bank (St. Augustine). She also actively practiced law with a Tampa law firm that specialized in insurance and medical malpractice defense in the early 90s, before finding her way back to blood banking joining TBA (then known as the Florida Georgia Blood Alliance) as its Director of Quality Assurance in 1995. Collins then moved to Mayo Clinic (Jacksonville) to take on the role of Transfusion Service Manager for three years before returning to TBA to serve as its COO since 2000.

As CEO, Collins will continue the organization’s current strategic track of focusing on raising TBA’s brand awareness, building community equity, while increasing blood donor collections and growing TBA’s hospital partnerships to expand its service reach.
