Celebrate and support Keep Jacksonville Beautiful at 29th anniversary fundraiser

The Keep Jacksonville Beautiful (KJB) Commission will host an educational fundraiser on Thursday, Jan. 19, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the City Hall Atrium to honor Anna Dooley, past president of KJB, of Greenscape of Jacksonville, Inc. for her numerous environmental achievements, outstanding environmental service to the city and her leadership in enhancing Jacksonville’s tree canopy.

The fundraiser will include the presentation to Dooley of the 2012 Jake Godbold Award, music and refreshments and a silent auction featuring environmentally friendly items such as a rain barrel, bird houses constructed out of illegal roadside signs, tote bags made from plastic grocery bags and other hand-crafted items from local artists.

The event will also recognize KJB site captains, sponsors, volunteers, partners and organizations for their efforts to clean up and beautify Jacksonville during collection and improvement events in 2011.

Tickets to the fundraiser are $25 and may be purchased at the door. All proceeds from the event will support activities and programs sponsored by KJB such as the St. Johns River Cleanup, America Recycles Day, the International Coastal Cleanup, the Adopt-A-Road program and cigarette litter prevention campaigns. In the last year, more than 6,000 volunteers have participated in clean ups and beautification projects throughout Jacksonville, collecting 90 tons of litter and debris.

The KJB 29th Anniversary Fundraiser is made possible by generous donations from Hubbard Construction, Bank of America and Waste Pro.
