New Year’s Eve fireworks

The Gator Bowl and the City of Jacksonville will present a New Year’s Eve fireworks show to commemorate 2011 and celebrate the arrival of 2012. The show is sponsored by Pyro Shows and Visit Jacksonville through a public-private partnership. The New Year’s fireworks will commence at the start of the New Year on Jan. 1 on the downtown riverfront. The approximately 10-minute show will take place from one barge behind The Jacksonville Landing and can be viewed from both the Northbank and Southbank riverwalks.

“This is an excellent chance to visit Jacksonville’s downtown during one of the most exciting times of the year,” said Mayor Alvin Brown. “As we all continue to navigate our way through difficult economic times, it is encouraging to see organizations come together to put on a great show for thousands of people. I want to thank Pyro Shows along with Visit Jacksonville and the Gator Bowl Association for all the hard work that goes into the weekend’s festivities. These types of public-private partnerships are setting a stronger foundation for Jacksonville’s future as a more vibrant hub of activity.”

In addition, downtown Jacksonville will be alive with activity throughout the weekend as fans of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the University of Florida Gators come to cheer on their teams at the Gator Bowl. The game will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 2, at 1 p.m. at EverBank Field. Many downtown restaurants, hotels and businesses will also host New Year’s Eve celebrations.
