Mayor Brown names appointees to JIBC

Mayor Alvin Brown announced his three appointments to the Jacksonville International Business Coalition (JIBC). The JIBC is a collaborative international business development effort between the City of Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Port Authority, the Jacksonville Airport Authority, the Jax Chamber of Commerce and other organizations.

The purpose of the advisory group is to develop and recommend a common economic strategy or policy in the Jacksonville region as it relates to international tactics, and then to offer counsel to the various international entities engaged in the execution of strategy.

Mayor Brown appointed Dennis Kelly, Regional Vice President and General Manager for Trapac Inc.; Derrick Smith, Vice President of Emerging Markets for CSX Corporation, Inc. and Ambassador Nancy Soderberg, President and CEO of Soderberg Global Solutions.

“Today’s economy knows no borders. We must put our best and brightest minds to work, searching for ways to grow the international business that will carry Jacksonville to the next level,” said the mayor. “Our trade mission to Brazil showed us that there are a multitude of opportunities out there. The main question for the new appointees is how do we leverage those opportunities into business growth for Jacksonville?”

The JIBC is a 501 c (3) organization housed at the Jax Chamber of Commerce and is governed by a 15-person board led by the mayor. The nine permanent members of the board include: Mayor Brown; Stephen Joost, City Council President; Steve Grossman, Executive Director of the Jacksonville Airport Authority; Lake Ray, President of the First Coast Manufacturer’s Association; Paul Anderson, Chief Executive Officer of JaxPort; Craig Gibbs, Commissioner of the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission; Hugh Greene, Chair of the Jax Chamber of Commerce; Jerry Mallot, President of JAXUSA Partnership and a position to be filled by the city’s economic development officer.

The JIBC meets quarterly and adopts strategies and develops measurable performance objectives.
