121 Financial is offering the free shredding to promote a preview of its newest branch in Arlington and to highlight the identity theft protection feature of its Benefits Plus program for members.

“According to Javelin Strategy & Research, a firm that conducts research for the global financial services industry, over 11 million people were affected by identity theft from 2008 to 2009,” reported William Braddock, CEO of 121 Financial Credit Union.

“So you can’t take enough precautions to protect yourself and your family’s financial security. That is why we wanted to offer the community an opportunity to dispose of their paperwork in a safe way,” said Braddock

On Saturday, individuals and small businesses can shred up to 75 pounds per person. Shredding services is provided by Iron Mountain.

While at the new 121 Financial branch, visitors can take a tour of the new facilities. They can also talk to credit union officials about 121’s Benefits Plus program that offers free identity theft protection in addition to numerous other services and money saving benefits.
