121 Financial Credit Union’s Branches to collect for Cell Phones for Soldiers

As a part of their recognition of Veterans Day, 121 Financial Credit Union has set up all of its branches as collection centers for the Cell Phones for Soldiers, announced William Braddock, CEO of 121 Financial Credit Union.

The phones will be sent to ReCellular, which recycles the phones and pays Cell Phones for Soldiers money for purchasing pre-paid calling cards that are sent to U.S. soldiers serving abroad.

“At 121, we are proud to support our troops,” Braddock said. “And helping to collect unwanted cell phones is a simple and easy way for our community to show this support.”

According to Cell Phones for Soldiers, U.S. consumers retire an estimated 130 million cell phones every 16 months, and only 2% of those phones are recycled. Approximately 202,000 ounces of gold alone could be recovered if all of these phones are recycled.
