Breaking Ground Contracting earns Green America’s Business Seal of Approval and releases book

Breaking Ground Contracting announces it has been awarded the Green America Business Seal of  Approval. The seal is presented to businesses that go beyond product and service quality to set the highest standards in environmental sustainability and social justice, and work to solve environmental and social problems.

The Green Business Network is a vibrant community of more than 4,000 environmentally and socially responsible businesses, the oldest and largest of its kind in the United States. The network is powered by Green America, a nonprofit whose mission is to harness the economic power of consumers and businesses to create a more just and sustainable economy. To be considered for the Seal of Approval and earn a listing in the annual National Green Pages, Breaking Ground Contracting had to complete a rigorous screening process to ensure it met Green America’s standards for the environment, community and labor.

“The guiding principle of Breaking Ground Contracting is to create sustainable buildings and living environments that educate and inspire us to lead better personal and professional lives,” said Mary Tappouni, president of Breaking Ground Contracting. “To be awarded the Seal of Approval by Green Business Network solidifies our company’s commitment to sustainability and our goal to be a solution to the environmental concerns facing our community.”

Green America is also featuring Breaking Ground’s children’s book, Me and Green, on its National Green Pages, a directory featuring more than 3,000 business that have made a firm commitment to sustainable, socially-just principles, including the support of sweatshop-free labor, organic farms, fair trade and cruelty-free products. Me and Green educates children about sustainable living, addresses what they can do to make choices that positively affect their environment, and teaches them about their connections to the Earth and each other. The book is designed to be a teaching tool for both teachers and parents and includes a special section with activities for children to do at home and at school. Me and Green is the first in a series of books and products by Breaking Ground Education Services that will inform children and adults of the positive ways each person can contribute to a sustainable life. Published and printed in the United States on recycled paper with soy ink, Me and Green was written on a third-grade level but serves as a great read-aloud for all children. The book is now available for purchase at www.greenpages.org and www.breakinggroundeducation.com.
