Baymeadows gym introduces aerial fitness

inShape Ladies Fitness is hosting an aerial fitness open house on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at their location, 9425-2 Craven Road, near the Sunbeam post office. All ages (over 15), all sizes, and all fitness levels are invited to attend. Demonstrations of this new and exciting exercise program will be performed and those attending will have the opportunity to try their hand at it. There will be refreshments and door prizes.

Aerial yoga or aerial fitness is performed with a silk hammock, similar to a backyard hammock except the rope design is replaced with one piece of strong yet comfortable fabric, which hangs from hooks attached to a solid frame.  The aerial hammock supports and cradles the body while the exerciser executes a variety of positions such as handstands, backbends and other stretching and strengthening moves.

Clara LeBlanc, co-owner of inShape Ladies Fitness says, “Aerial fitness gives you the feeling of flying. Lifting the body off the floor is a very freeing experience yet very effective in toning and sculpting the muscles.” LeBlanc who has been doing aerial fitness as home exercise program, recently studied the skill under several master aerialists in Houston, Texas and is certified to offer the class in Jacksonville.

The advantage of aerial yoga as compared to traditional yoga is that it allows the participant toachieve a higher level of technique by taking pressure off the bones and joints. It is also beneficial for those suffering from conditions related to chronic pain.

inShape Ladies Fitness was founded in 2006 and is a full service gym owned and operated by Clara LeBlanc and Sandra Salem. inShape offers a variety of traditional and alternative exercise programs including yoga, Zumba, tone & sculpt, core ball, pole fitness and now aerial fitness.
