Smith selected as JAX Chamber Chair in 2013

The JAX Chamber nominated Gregory B. Smith, Jacksonville and Northeast Florida market president for Bank of America, as the Chamber Chair in 2013. Following approval by the Chamber’s board of directors, Smith begins his duties as chair-elect in January 2012.

“I look forward to working with 2012 Chair Tom Van Berkel and providing leadership to the board of directors as we build on the past accomplishments of the Chamber and work toward fulfilling our key initiatives,” Smith said.

As market president, Smith is the senior executive for local business, civic and philanthropic leadership for Bank of America in Jacksonville and Northeast Florida. He is also a senior credit products manager in business banking with a focus on driving credit business to small to mid-size companies in the Southeast.

Smith joined Bank of America in 1988 as a vice president in the commercial real estate division. He was promoted to senior vice president in credit risk in 1992 and to regional executive in private lending in 1995. Smith moved to Jacksonville in 2000 as the southeast region business lending executive, and in 2004 became a national credit-services executive. Since relocating to Jacksonville, Smith has held several positions on the Chamber’s Board of Directors, including treasurer and chair of Cornerstone, now known as JAXUSA Partnership.

“With his unique understanding of the challenges and continued evolution in the business marketplace, Greg is ideally suited to lead the Chamber in 2013,” said Van Berkel, Main Street America Group chairman and CEO. “I look forward to working with him in his new role.”

Smith currently serves as chairman of Jacksonville University’s Davis College of Business Executive Advisory Board. He is also on the University of North Florida Foundation Board, the United Way of Northeast Florida Board of Trustees and the general board of the Jacksonville Zoological Society. He is a member of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society with the United Way of Northeast Florida, THE PLAYERS Council with THE PLAYERS Championship and chairman of the 2011 Gator Bowl Association. He also serves as an executive sponsor for Bank of America’s Black Professional Group of Florida and the Hispanic/Latino Organization for Leadership and Advancement.

“As Bank of America’s market president, Greg has demonstrated outstanding vision and leadership in the community,” said Hugh Greene, 2011 Chamber chair and president and chief executive officer of Baptist Health. “We are very excited to have him step into this position as a champion for the Chamber’s membership and community partners.”

As chair-elect, Smith will lead the Chamber’s annual planning process along with the annual Leadership Trip in 2012.

“Greg is a strategic leader who has demonstrated great passion for our community,” said Chamber President Wally Lee. “He brings vital skills that we will utilize as the Chamber continues to encourage a vibrant business community.”
