Harbinger opens new facility

Harbinger, a national sign and lighting firm specializing in fabrication design engineering and project management, announces it has expanded and opened a new facility adding capacity, enhancing capabilities and creating room for growth. Harbinger, formerly Quality Sign, is Jacksonville-based and family-owned, opened the facility located at 5300 Shad Road this week. The company-owned facility is 51,500 square feet with 40,000 square feet of manufacturing space, more than doubling the company’s production space.

“During the economic downturn, Harbinger has sustained steady growth, has not laid off any employees and has been able to expand its sales, revenues, employees and now its physical location,” said Roger Williams, CEO of Harbinger.

The building, on 6.04 acres, was originally constructed in 2002 to serve as the showroom and distribution facility for Noland Plumbing.

“The new building better reflects who we are, what we are best at and is a platform for communicating our history and future; all part of the rebranding we began in early 2010,” said Steve Williams, Harbinger president. “The new building will allow us to increase our capacity by offering flexibility of multiple shifts, production efficiency, a more efficient plant layout all supporting our dedication to Lean principles in manufacturing.”

Harbinger helps create a solid brand experience for single or multiple location businesses through innovative design, project management and fabrication. Services include custom fabrication and installation, national program management, national retrofit and maintenance programs and design engineering. Additionally, Harbinger is a leading manufacturer of double-faced, LED illuminated pylon signs using advanced General Electric (GE) lighting technology.

Producing top-quality, consistent signage in an efficient and timely manner and offering more product options to better serve as a one-stop signage and illumination resource are the effects of this move Harbinger hopes its customers notice.

The newly-renovated facility includes expanded office space and provides space for additional services, including a retail space for digital graphics. It also has a larger graphics room to accommodate new printing technology. The additional space also gives Harbinger the ability to print vinyl banners and site signs as well as custom fleet graphic wraps.

Harbinger’s new location also includes an art gallery creating an environment where fine art and industrial design can intersect. “The gallery, named Florida Mining for the building’s location at the intersection of Shad Road and Florida Mining Boulevard, is part of Harbinger’s long-standing philanthropic commitment to inspire creativity and promote the arts in Jacksonville,” said Steve Williams who not only serves as Harbinger’s president but is also a working artist and experienced gallery operator.

Harbinger has 42 employees, adding eight employees during the past year. The company will celebrate its 50 year anniversary in 2012 and is owned and operated by the Williams family, now in its third generation of continuous ownership.

Harbinger is a nationwide sign and lighting firm specializing in fabrication, value engineering and project management. Founded in 1962, and owned by the Williams family, Harbinger is headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida and is licensed to operate across the country.
