Education commissioner thanks JaxKids Book Club sponsors

With registration well underway and almost 9,000 new members already signed up for the JaxKids Book Club, Education Commissioner Dr. Donnie Horner recognized new and renewing sponsors for their support of early childhood literacy through the JaxKids Book Club. These new and renewed sponsorships, totaling more than $57,000 in value, support five of the 12 books in the JaxKids Book Club series, as well as the book bag and coloring book for up to 12,000 Jacksonville 4-year-olds who join the club this year.

Dr. Horner also read to 4-year-olds from the school’s Voluntary Prekindergarten classes, and helped sponsors distribute book bags to the program’s newest members.

“We are now operating the Book Club on a 100% sponsorship model, but the enthusiasm of the children and their need for high quality books in the home has not changed. I am proud of the leadership that our sponsors have shown and are continuing to show for education in our community,” said Linda Lanier, executive director of the Jacksonville Children’s Commission. “Thanks to their generosity, we may continue to help our community’s pre-kindergartners enter the school system more prepared to learn and succeed. We sincerely appreciate their support.”
