Haskell awarded design-build contract for $18 million Miami-Dade college mixed-use parking garage

Haskell announces it has been awarded an $18 million contract to design and build a mixed-use parking garage and central energy plant for Miami-Dade College’s Hialeah campus located in Miami. The parking structure will feature approximately 900 parking spaces and 5,000 square feet of multi-purpose and ancillary space on the ground level. The central energy plant will serve the heating, cooling and backup power needs of the campus and improve its overall energy efficiency.

“Our design-build work on the Hialeah campus will greatly improve the quality of life for students and faculty as well as complement the additional improvements being made by the college, including the construction of a new classroom building,” said Don Kartzmark, Project Executive and leader of Haskell’s Commercial Division. “Parking is greatly needed on the campus and our expertise allows us to work with Miami-Dade College to create a structure that will not only alleviate the need for parking but also create a multi-purpose space for faculty and students to for events, social gatherings and conferences.”

The parking garage, which will be the first to be constructed on the campus, will feature ancillary spaces that will be used as offices, storage and work areas for maintenance and support staff. A new landscaped courtyard near the parking garage will provide a welcoming space for students and faculty to gather and host community events. Construction on the parking garage is expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2011 and anticipated for completion by the end of 2012.

The Hialeah Campus is one of Miami-Dade College’s eight campuses. The campus serves the Greater Hialeah-Miami Lakes area and offers day and evening classes six days a week. More information about the campus is available at
