TD Bank to visit MWKF to promote academic literacy

The MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation (MWKF) and TD Bank will partner to bring the foundation’s Friday Book Club to a group of second-grade students on Friday, Sept. 23 from 3:30-4:15 p.m.

TD Bank Market President Cindy Stover will be joined by local TD Bank employees to read “The Can Man,” a financially-themed book children can relate to that also teaches the importance of compassion and sharing. Following the reading, students will participate in a fun enrichment activity as well as enjoy snacks and beverages provided by TD Bank. All students who participate in the book club will also receive new backpacks for school.

The event is a continuation of TD Bank’s Summer Reading Program, which rewards children who keep their reading skills sharp during the months of May-September. As part of the program, TD Bank will deposit $10 into a new or existing Young Saver account for every child who reads 10 books during the summer months. In 2010, 31,823 kids from Maine to Florida participated, reading a total of 318,230 books and earning $318,230, deposited into their Young Saver accounts.

The TD Bank Summer Reading Program encourages kids of all ages to read while teaching them the importance of saving money and budgeting.
