Mayor Brown salutes women in business

Mayor Alvin Brown saluted women entrepreneurs throughout the region Aug. 24 as the Jacksonville Women’s Business Center honored mentors and graduates with a reception at the Main Library downtown.

“This program shows that, in Jacksonville, entrepreneurs in need have the tools to succeed,” said Mayor Brown.

The Jacksonville Women’s Business Center began in 2004 and is part of the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Mayor Brown commended program organizers Pat Blanchard and Sandy Bartow for their work. The mayor said small business development is crucial to turn around Jacksonville’s economy.

“I’m optimistic that the sharp minds of entrepreneurs like you are going to put Jacksonville back to work,” the mayor said.
