Eat Up Downtown begins Aug. 15

The Eat Up Downtown dining promotion will run Aug. 15 – 28, which encourages diners to take advantage of the $25 per person, three-course dinner offer at selected downtown restaurants. With 17 downtown restaurants participating, this is an opportunity for diners to try a new restaurant or visit an old favorite to enjoy exquisite cuisine at an affordable price.

Mayor Alvin Brown supports the efforts of the Eat Up Downtown promotion by saying, “This downtown campaign addresses two of my main mayoral initiatives to help improve our downtown and support our smaller businesses,” said Mayor Brown. “Residents can patronize the many wonderful downtown restaurants and enjoy dinner at an affordable price. More programming of this nature is essential to our downtown’s success and I encourage all to take advantage of this offer. I certainly plan on participating.”

Having a vibrant and prosperous downtown is a priority for the mayor. More downtown promotions and programming are crucial in reaching the 2,000 residents living downtown and the 51,000 employees working downtown each day.

Last year’s Eat Up Downtown campaign showed that the majority of diners continued to return to downtown and dine at one of the restaurants, generating repeat business. Downtown Vision, Inc. estimates that more than 9,000 people came to downtown last year—many from various parts of Jacksonville. In some instances, a restaurant’s revenue was increased by more than 40% in an otherwise slow business period.

“Eat Up Downtown is an easy and affordable way for the community to get involved and support these small businesses,” commented Terry Lorince, executive director for Downtown Vision, Inc. “Restaurant weeks are common in other downtowns and we have applied that best practice to downtown Jacksonville.”
