Floridian named ‘Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year’

Fleet Advantage CEO John J. Flynn was awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2011 in the “Emerging” category, announced at the awards ceremony on June 16 in Orlando.

The program recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance, and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.  Flynn is now eligible for consideration for the Entrepreneur Of The Year National Award, to be announced at a Palm Springs, Calif. ceremony in November.

“Our commitments to the economic sustainability of our clients and to improving our environment are paramount” said Flynn.  “We enable private fleets to achieve a competitive advantage and lower overall costs through a continuous improvement model that promotes economic, environmental, and social sustainability.”

Value Proposition and Business Model

Fleet Advantage manages equipment assets so that customers operating private fleets continually reduce costs.  Traditional leasing products require the lessee to retain equipment for long-term, fixed annual periods.  This format enables the lessor to benefit from the low booked residual value and to realize a windfall profit upon resale at lease expiration.

The counter-intuitive business model of Fleet Advantage allows the lessee/user to realize gains on equipment sales through shorter lifecycles. Flynn’s strategy is to constantly monitor all-in costs and to offer a flexible leasing format that allows customers to acquire newer, more fuel efficient trucks as new technologies become available in the market, thereby reducing fuel consumption, maintenance and repair costs and improving safety and environmental performance.

Fleet Advantage uses proprietary software and real-time data to track the Total Cost of Ownership (including actual cost-per-mile, depreciation, interest, fuel, maintenance and repair expenses and used truck resale values) to establish a ‘tipping point’, the point where the cost to operate an existing asset exceeds the cost of replacing the asset.  The adjustment of the lifecycle is governed by data driven decisions of real-time costs rather than anecdotal or inaccurate historical information.

“Our unique Clean Air Program(SM) utilizes clean diesel technology and allows fleet operators to implement environmentally-friendly solutions that benefit their employees, their communities, and the environment as well as an avenue to meet corporate sustainability goals and save millions of dollars.” said Flynn.

The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Program celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. The program has expanded to recognize business leaders in more than 140 cities and more than 50 countries throughout the world.

Fleet Advantage was founded by industry veteran John J. Flynn and the firm services the leasing needs of Fortune 500 companies and private truck fleets in North America with an innovative IT-based leasing product that delivers a continuous improvement model.
