Stellar to renovate church

Stellar has recently been awarded a new contract to renovate St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and Day School. The new 12,500 square-foot building and1,200 expansion project, known as “We Are One” will conclude in Summer 2012.

Stellar as the construction manager along with architectural project partner, Richard Skinner & Associates will complete the project in three phases. The first phase will consist of demolition, roads, drainage, utilities, foundations, landscape and hardscape. The remaining two phases include the 1,200 square-foot chapel expansion, construction of the new commons building, completion of covered walkways, benches and installation of a central feature.

The renovations will enlarge the church’s existing chapel to resemble the church sanctuary by widening the altar area and creating vaulted ceilings. The new commons building includes a large commercial kitchen, performance stage with audio/visual technology, physical education and indoor sports facilities with more seating capacity than was available in the prior structure. The transformation will enclose Oxford Avenue, which now divides the church and school campuses, creating a Campus Green and pedestrian path, making the two campuses one. Other renovations consist of additional parking, restoration of the chapel’s stained glass windows and the addition of new stained glass windows.

“The new Campus Green unites the campuses — St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and St. Mark’s Day School — into one,” said Richard Lovelace, divisional vice president of Stellar’s Commercial Division. “We are honored to have been selected for this project that will establish a focal point for both campuses and assist the St. Mark’s community in reaching their ‘We Are One’ goal.”
