Top small businesses honored at 2011 Small Business Week Awards celebration

Local small business were honored at the 19th Annual Small Business Week Celebration luncheon at the University Center on the University of

2011 SBA winner

NorthFlorida campus May 25.

The U.S. Small Business Administration presented its coveted Small Business Week awards, spotlighting the outstanding contributions of North Florida business leaders and champions at the district level. The individuals recognized include:

• Financial Services Champion of the Year: Jessica Lynn Evans, Regions Bank

• Minority Small Business Champion of the Year: Arthur J. Lee, Lee Wesley Restaurants, LLC

• Small Business Exporter of the Year: David M. Capps, Caribbean Breeze

• Jeffrey Butland Family-Owned Business of the Year Award: Scott Shannon Hulihan, Hulihan Territory, Inc.

• Women in Business Champion of the Year: Kathryn R. Murphy, RN, MSN, CMC, KRM Resources LLC d.b.a Comfort Keepers

• Veteran Small Business Champion of the Year: David Moorefield, DAK Resources

The U.S. SBA also recognized North Florida’s top SBA Lenders with awards for significant participation in the 7(a) and 504 Loan programs for fiscal year 2010.  Lending institutions that were recognized include:

  • TOP 7(a) Lender By Dollar Amount: SunTrust Bank
  • TOP 7(a) Lender By Number of Loans: Superior Financial Group
  • Top Certified Development Company By Dollar Amount: Florida First Capital Finance Corporation
  • Top Certified Development Company By Number of Loans: Florida Business Development Corporation
  • Top 1st Mortgage Lender: Regions Bank
  • Credit Union of the Year: Fairwinds Credit Union
  • Top Microlender: Community Enterprise Investments, Inc.
  • Top Community Bank SBA Lender: BankFirst

This year’s event featured marketing and advertising expert, Kelly McDonald, who has over 20 years of ad agency experience and is the author of How to Market to People Not Like You.

This event was presented by the Small Business Development Center at UNF, with support from the Jacksonville Business Journal, FirstAtlantic Bank, High Street Capital, SunTrust Bank, and Wachovia, A Wells Fargo Company
