Chamber promotes 2011 Business Expo

The Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce is launching a campaign to promote the 2011 Business Expo and downtown revitalization.

“Starting or Growing a Business Downtown” is the focus of the expo scheduled for Wednesday, June 1, at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront.  Utilizing radio, print, and television advertisements as well as social media, the campaign will drive attendance and showcase all that downtown offers as a place to live, work and play.

“Downtown is a vibrant location for corporations and entrepreneurs alike,” said Wally Lee, president of the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce.  “With the support of the community and our leaders, Downtown Jacksonville is destined to be the next big growth spot for Northeast Florida.”

Downtown Jacksonville offers many amenities including award-winning restaurants, cultural attractions, sporting events and a convenient, scenic location along the St. Johns River.

“We want to make certain everyone knows the appeal and advantages of living, working and playing in the heart of our great city,” Lee said.

The Chamber is hosting free informational sessions focused on downtown during the Business Expo, which will open at 2 p.m. with a panel discussion featuring entrepreneurs who started or moved their businesses downtown.  The panelists include Vince McCormack, CEO of Perdue Office Interiors; Tony Allegretti, co-owner of the Burrito Gallery; and Bill Cesery, owner of the Haydon Burns Library.  A tour of available downtown office spaces will follow the panel discussion at 3:30 p.m.

The following organizations will provide guidance on developing a business plan, financing options and other business start-up needs:

  • Chamber’s Small Business Center (SBC)
  • Chamber’s Jacksonville Women’s Business Center (JWBC)
  • Beaver Street Enterprise Center (BSEC)
  • Jacksonville Economic Development Council (JEDC)
  • Small Business Development Center (SBDC)
  • Small Business Administration (SBA)

The Chamber Councils will host a Business After Hours networking event from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Business Expo, which is also an official stop of the June First Wednesday Downtown Art Walk.

Open to the public and free of charge, the Business Expo will provide attendees the opportunity to network with other business professionals and visit more than 75 exhibitor booths.  Sponsorship opportunities and exhibitor booth space are available.  Contact Larissa Hicks at (904) 366-6627 or Larissa.Hicks@myjaxchamber.com for more information.
