SBDC offers workshops in May, June

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the University of North Florida is offering a number of free and low-cost workshops to small business owners during May and June. All workshops are offered at the UNF University Center, 12000 Alumni Dr., unless otherwise stated. To register, go to or call 904-620-2476/

• How to S-T-A-R-T-U-P Your Own Business. May 17, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.; June 16, 6 p.m. to p.m. Cost: $40 in advance; $50 day of workshop.

• Tax Facts. May 3, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Cost: $40 in advance; $50 day of workshop. Focus: Tax implications of business structure. Co-sponsored by the IRS.

• Where’s the Money?  And How Do I Get It? May 12, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Cost, $40 in advance; $50 day of workshop. Focus: Financing options available to small businesses.

• QuickBooks for Small Business Owners. May 19, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Cost: $60. Focus: Information on using QuickBooks as an accounting method.

• Nonprofit Startup 101. May 24, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Cost: $25. Focus: How to start a nonprofit organization.

• Business Plan Basics. June 2, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Cost: $40 in advance; $50, day of workshop. Focus: Key components of a business plan.

• Getting Started With Constant Contact. June 8, 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Cost: Free. Focus: Basics of Constant Contact e-mail marketing.

• Nonprofit Fundraising. June 17, 9 a.m. to noon. Cost: $40. Focus: How to plan fundraising.

• The Steps to Starting a Business Webinar. June 29, 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Cost: $20. Focus: Seven steps in running a business. Registration fees include a downloadable start-up kit and workbook.  All attendees must have internet access and a telephone.

• Government Contracting 101. May 11, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; June 8, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Cost: $30. Focus: Basics about being a government contractor.

• GSA — Is it Right for You? May 4, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Cost: $40. Focus: How the government uses GSA purchasing.
