MWKF celebrates 15th anniversary

The MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation (MWKF) will kick off its 15-year anniversary on Jan. 15 with an Alumni Reunion at the Youth Center, followed by 15 days of community service by MWKF youth.

Each year the MWKF youth perform a variety of community service projects for the local community through its annual Servathon. This year’s schedule includes:

• Jan. 17–Feb. 1 The organization will collect dimes to support the March of Dimes;

• Jan. 18. Third and fourth grade students will write letters to soldiers deployed overseas;

• Jan. 24. Third graders will make peace bracelets for battered women and children;

• Jan. 26. A group of middle/high school students will help prepare meals at the Sulzbacher Center;

• Jan. 31–Feb. 4. The organization will collect teddy bears for the youth of Lea’s Place, a sanctuary for children who are victims of abuse and neglect and have been removed from their homes;

• Feb. 1. Fifth graders will hand out informative flyers on heart disease and breast cancer to the Durkeeville community;

• Feb. 2. A group of middle/high school students will read to kindergartners at John Love Elementary;

• Feb. 4. Kindergarten, first, and second graders will make Valentine’s Day cards for the elderly at Edgewood Nursing home.
