IABC First Coast names Volunteer of the Year and Rising Stars

The First Coast chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) has named Angela Vigil, internal communications manager for the City of Jacksonville, as its 2010 Volunteer of the Year during the organization’s year-end gala and awards banquet held at the headquarters of The Haskell Company.

The chapter also announced the three recipients of its 2010 Rising Star Award: Donia Crime, public relations director at Burdette Ketchum; Cathy Smith, communications consultant; and Adriane Tish, communications specialist at First Coast Service Options.

Vigil served as creative director on the IABC First Coast communications committee in 2010. In addition, she planned professional development meetings, conducted workshops and served as key presenter on internal communications best practices.

“Angela is a talented communications powerhouse,” said Mitzi Saul, 2010 chapter president of IABC First Coast. “She is an award-winning video producer, a creative communications professional and a strategic thinker. Angela contributes greatly to the communications industry in Jacksonville; she is quite deserving of the Volunteer of the Year designation.”

Crime was a member the chapter’s communications committee in 2010, spearheading its public relations efforts and assisting with social media. In her role on the professional development committee, Smith was instrumental in selecting topics, securing guest speakers and running meeting logistics for monthly programs. As membership committee member, Tish coordinated monthly member spotlights for the chapter newsletter and website.
