Celebrate the Holidays! Winners announced

Several winners of the Celebrate the Holidays! Window display project have been determined by the City of Jacksonville.

First place was awarded to Argie Mitra with her display entitled, “All Dressed Up…and Nowhere to Go!” depicting a scene of a girl preparing for a holiday soirée by making her own dress.

Second place was awarded to Seacoast Christian Academy for its display entitled, “Christmas Blessings,” expressing Seacoast Christian Academy’s hope for peace, love, and joy during the holiday season and entire year.

Third place was awarded to Bob Shivers for his display entitled, “Holiday Enchantment…his journey begins!” giving viewers a glimpse of Christmas Eve preparations at the North Pole.

The window displays were judged based on creativity, originality, and use of materials.  Judges for the 2010 Holiday Window Display Project were Ann Meyer, associate publisher/owner, TravelHost; Janice Lowe, general manager, The Jacksonville Landing; and Stephen Dare, MetroJacksonville.com.

The holiday windows are currently on display through Jan. 2, 2011. Thirteen displays are scattered throughout downtown to create a tour accessible by foot or vehicle. Each display creatively reflects an aspect of the holidays the designer chose to portray.  A map with each holiday window can be found at www.MakeASceneDowntown.com and is also included in the comprehensive guide titled; Celebrate the Holidays! Celebrate Downtown! published by the City of Jacksonville.  The guide highlights activities and events at various venues in the downtown area taking place and spans from mid-November to early January. Guides can be picked up at City Hall, downtown hotels and businesses, as well as area museums and libraries.
