Corporate Salute to women in business to be Jan. 28

Women Executive Leadership (WEL) has announced this year’s Corporate Salute, an event that  will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., January 28, 2011, at the Signature Grand, 6900 State Road 84, Davie, Fla. The event brings together hundreds of successful women, business executives, and high-level decision-makers to celebrate the success of Florida’s public companies with gender diversity in their boardrooms and executive suites.

In collaboration with the University of Miami, WEL will present the results of its 2010 Florida Census of Women Directors and Executive Officers. This exclusive report documents the changes during the past two years as well as the new trends emerging in corporate boardrooms and executive suites. It is the basis for the WEL Corporate Salute Awards presented to companies that show commitment to gender diversity. New to this year’s program is WEL’s Breakthrough Awards for companies that have named female directors to their boards for the first time.

“Corporate Salute, the 2010 Florida Census, and the WEL Awards are important because they force us to take a hard look at the changes and trends in corporate boardrooms and executive suites, giving credit to companies making progress in promoting women while also identifying areas of improvement,” said Cindy Kushner, WEL founder, and a tax partner with Crowe Horwath in Fort Lauderdale, FL. “These initiatives also help us raise the visibility of our female talent pool and how WEL can help companies through our national membership with InterOrganization Network.”

At the event, Cindy Krischer Goodman, a nationally syndicated, award-winning Miami Herald columnist and journalist, will lead a candid dialogue about the issues shaping boardroom diversity with two acclaimed business leaders: Judy Schmeling, executive vice president and chief financial officer of HSNi, a $2.8 billion interactive, multi-channel retailer with strong direct-to-consumer expertise among its two operating segments, HSN and Cornerstone Brands; and Roy Krause, president and CEO of Spherion’s parent company, The SFN Group, a strategic workforce solutions company that provides professional services and general staffing to businesses.

Event tickets and sponsorship opportunities are available at info@WELFLORIDA.com. This year’s event sponsors include: Crowe Horwath, Holland & Knight, Bowne, University of Miami, Frank Crystal & Company, Mayors, FPL and Roar Media.
