Van Berkel selected as JAX Chamber Chair-Elect

Tom Van Berkel

The Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce has nominated Tom Van Berkel, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Jacksonville-based The Main Street America Group, as the Chamber Chair in 2012.  Following approval by the Chamber’s board of directors, Van Berkel will begin his duties as chair-elect in January 2011.

“I look forward to working with 2011 Chair Hugh Greene in providing leadership to the board of directors as we build upon the tremendous accomplishments the Chamber has made in fulfilling our key initiatives,” Van Berkel said.

As chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Main Street America, Van Berkel leads a superregional insurance company that operates six property-casualty insurance carriers, including Jacksonville-based Old Dominion Insurance Company. Main Street America is also the founding company partner of the Trusted Choice independent agent national branding program.

Since Main Street America relocated its executive offices (2002) and corporate headquarters (2005) to Jacksonville, Van Berkel has held several positions on the Chamber’s Board of Directors, including treasurer and chair of Cornerstone, the Chamber’s economic development initiative. He is vice president of finance for the North Florida Council of the Boys Scouts of America and is on the board of trustees of the Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art.  He also sits on the boards of The River Club of Jacksonville and the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America.

As chair-elect in 2011, Van Berkel will lead the Chamber’s annual planning process along with the annual Leadership Trip.
