SBA e200 class graduates; 13 from JAX

The North Florida District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is celebrating the graduation of the 2010 class of the SBA’s Emerging 200 Program (e200).  Thirteen small business owners who operate businesses in Jacksonville’s inner city will receive honors as graduates of the 2010 Emerging 200 (e-200) program of the North Florida District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration. Graduation ceremonies will be Wednesday, November 3, at 6 p.m. at the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The goal of e200 is to identify 200 inner-city businesses across the country that show a high potential for growth and to provide them the network, resources, and motivation required to build a sustainable business within a designated inner-city geographic location.  SBA contracted with InnerCity Entrepreneurs to conduct the training aspect of SBA’s Emerging 200 Initiative.  Jacksonville is one 15 cities across the country participating in the initiative.

SBA North Florida District Director Wilfredo J. Gonzalez stated, “We are extremely proud to announce the graduation of this year’s e200 Class.  The 2010 participants have accelerated their development by participating in the e200 program.  We are honored Jacksonville has been given the opportunity to assist in increasing the employment rate of the inner city through the second year of the e200 Program.  We thank these businesses for taking the initiative to assist in this very important venture for our city.”

The 13 local small business firms and their owners graduating from the e200 Class of 2010 are:

The InnerCity Entrepreneurs (course developers) subcontracted a local trainer to deliver the e200 program once again in Jacksonville.   The trainer led the program and worked with the small business owners over an eight-month period.  Each business was responsible for producing a three-year strategic growth plan with benchmarks and performance targets for their individual business.

The e200 training focused on topics such as organization management, financial management, growth strategies and management, market development, and strategic planning. The program also included CEO mentoring sessions among the participants.  Participation in the e200 was offered free of charge to the participants.

The e200 Jacksonville initiative is cosponsored with the Small Business Development Center at the University of North Florida, SCORE, the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce Small Business Center, Jacksonville Women’s Business Center, and the Beaver Street Enterprise Center.

The graduation ceremony is open to the public and to media.  RSVP to Lola Kress, 904-443-1933 or lola.kress@sba.gov.
