CFF raises $77K in Trout Classic

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation raised more than $77,000 at its 9th annual Oldest City Red Trout Classic at Camachee Cove Yacht Harbor in St. Augustine. Presented by PSS World Medical, the tournament encouraged anglers to “catch a cure for cystic fibrosis.”

“Participants of the Oldest City Red Trout Classic have a chance to do something they love while raising money to fund medical research to find a cure for cystic fibrosis,” said Kevin English, senior vice president of supplier operations at PSS World Medical, event sponsor. “It is an honor to be part of this event year after year and I want to thank everyone who turned out, showed their support and made this another successful tournament for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.”

The Oldest City Red Trout Classic is a catch-and-release tournament and part of the Redbone Celebrity Tournament Series. During the two-day competition, guides and anglers teamed up to catch redfish and trout. The festivities began at the St. Augustine Rod & Gun Club with a Captain’s Dinner, sponsored by Lagasse. In addition to the live and silent auctions, there was a prize drawing for a custom-made fishing rod with Shimano reel, from team TBS Captain, Tony Bozzella, was awarded to the winner of the prize drawing, Dr. David Heekin, fishing with Moody Chisholm on the St. Vincent’s team. The fishing took place over two days and concluded with an awards reception held dockside at the Kingfish Grill at Camachee Cove Yacht Harbor in St. Augustine. Winners of the tournament included:

  • Team Grand Champion Anglers Andy Behrends (PSS World Medical) and Jerry Delgado (KPMG) with Captain Mike Vickers
  • 1st Runner Up Angler Jerry Delgado (KPMG) with Captain Mike Vickers
  • 1st Runner up Team Anglers Glen Fick (Marlin Marketing) and Rob Filer (PSS World Medical) with Captain James Dumas
  • Fly Division Champion Angler and celebrity angler, Vaughn Cochran with Captain Warren Hinrichs
  • Largest Redfish Angler Steve Donalson (PSS World Medical) with Captain Kirk Waltz
  • Largest Trout Angler John Sasen (PSS World Medical) with Captain Tony Bozzella
  • Most Redfish Angler  Jerry Delgado (KPMG) with Captain Mike Vickers
  • Most Trout Angler Scott Cooper (PSS World Medical) with Captain T.R. De Roche

Since the first year of the Redbone Celebrity Tournament Series in 2002, the Oldest City Red – Trout Celebrity Classic has netted $448,877 for cystic fibrosis research and care programs.
