Local private school to appear on Discovery Channel

The Profiles Series, an award-winning informational program, will be on the campus of Jacksonville Country Day School (JCDS) Tuesday, October 5 to videotape segments for an upcoming show scheduled to appear on the Discovery Channel this winter.

This episode of The Profiles Series will examine private schools across the nation that are preparing students for life in the 21st century. JCDS is one of three schools that will be highlighted in the program.

The producers of the series approached school administrators about including JCDS in the program after hearing about the healthy lunch program, and the emphasis on educating the whole child.

“We changed our mission statement this year to include the words healthy and productive,” said head of school Terry Bartow. “It is our belief that you must educate the body as well as both sides of the brain.”

The Profile Series will focus on the newly-renovated cafeteria with its variety of lower-sugar, lower-sodium, and lower-carb food choices. Other highlights will include the brain-based academics, daily physical education, comprehensive arts and foreign language programs, and technology initiatives.

“There are so many little things that make a school great,” Bartow told the Profiles Series producers. “I am sure that some of those things can be captured on video.”

The mission of The Profile Series is to create quality programming that informs, educates, and enlightens viewers both nationally and internationally. The series is hosted by Louis Gossett, Jr.
