MWKF awards college scholarships

The MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation  (MWKF) recently awarded 21 college scholarshipsmwkf logo for a total of $99,000.   Since its inception in 1997, MWKF (in partnership with other organizations including Take Stock in Children) has awarded more than $400,000 of scholarship money to MWKF students.

Three Foundation scholarships of $5,000 each were awarded to the following students:

  • Trenden Davis (7th grade, Kirby Smith Middle)—MWKF Student Athlete of the Year;
  • Reggie Bryant (Senior, Robert E. Lee HS)—Rick Murray Don’t Quit Scholarship;
  • Neshele Scott (Senior, Robert E. Lee HS)—Charlie Rice Fire Up Scholarship.

Take Stock in Children Scholarship awardees are Tatiyana Roberts (6th grade, John E. Ford K8) , Rudolph McSwain (6th grade, John E. Ford K8), Adrienne Clark (7th grade, Darnell Cookman), Marquis Atkinson (7th grade, Kirby Smith, Jervonnie Moody (7th grade, John E. Ford)  and Chaezni Payne (7th grade, John E. Ford) . The Take Stock in Children Scholarships provide recipients with a mentor and a tuition based scholarship for four years of school.

Extra Effort Scholarship winners received  $500 in scholarship money.  They are:   Trevonti Scott (5th grade, R.L. Brown), Jevon Shealy (5th grade, John E. Ford) , Keyondra Merritt (5th grade, John E. Ford), Vincent Davis (4th grade, Andrew Robinson), Jervonnie Moody (7th grade, John E. Ford), Mervin Nicholas (6th grade, Kirby Smith), Chaezni Payne (7th grade, John E. Ford),  Marquis Atkinson (7th grade, Kirby Smith), Ciaira Walker (7th grade, Matthew Gilbert), Benzell Lang (8th grade, Darnell Cookman), Ashton Scott (9th grade, Robert E. Lee), and Keanna Bell (11th grade, Stanton College Preparatory).  Extra Effort scholarships are presented to students who always put forth their very best in the classroom, the community on the tennis court.

All scholarship award winners will be recognized during the 14th Annual MaliVai Washington Golf & Tennis Gala held September 13 and 14 in Ponte Vedra Beach.
