Jacksonville-based marketing consulting and communications firm, has been appointed as The River Club Inc.’s 2010 – 2011 president of the board of directors. Burdette was installed during The River Club’s annual Past Presidents’ Dinner, held April 22, during which past presidents honor the club’s outgoing and incoming presidents. Burdette, who previously served as vice president, officially began her one-year term May 1.

“Karen’s marketing expertise has proven to be a great asset to The River Club throughout her years as a member,” said Chris Miller, general manager. “As we continue to look for innovative ways to bring even greater value and opportunities to our members, Karen’s leadership and prior board experience will help us meet these goals.”

The River Club, a Northeast Florida’s business club, was founded in 1954 as a men’s luncheon club, with membership limited to male business leaders. As a young marketing executive in Jacksonville in the late 1970s, Burdette was unable to join her male colleagues in the main dining room and could not enjoy membership prior to the club’s admission of female members in 1985. She is now the club’s second female president and has been a club member for seven years.

In 2004, Gate Petroleum Co. purchased The River Club and invested in a major renovation of the club’s facilities. The River Club’s board of directors is composed of Northeast Florida executives who serve in a voluntary advisory capacity. Responsibilities include optimizing the membership experience, as well as membership development and retention.
