Solantic’s Bowling featured at SSBD CEO Nexus Forum

The Second Stage Business Development (SSBD) of the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce recently hostedKaren Bowling Headshot.small its quarterly CEO Nexus Forum featuring guest speaker Karen Bowling, CEO of Solantic. During the forum, Bowling discussed consumer needs, marketing, and her road to success, from co-founding Solantic in 2001 to the company’s recent joint venture with Baptist Health. Bowling also elaborated on how she used the Chamber’s resources to launch and grow the urgent care centers.

“The Chamber was vital to our early success at Solantic, as we were able to draw from Cornerstone’s vast research and take advantage of networking opportunities at Trustee and council meetings as well as develop relationships on the Chamber’s annual Leadership Trips,” Bowling said.

Bowling reported that Solantic is currently the fourth largest urgent care center in the country with 525 employees and 31 centers. Solantic’s business model applies retail concepts to healthcare such as posting prices, creating a branded image, obtaining visible care center locations, and rewarding employee incentives based on customer satisfaction. Bowling gave her presentation to more than 25 second stage CEOs at the CEO Nexus Forum.

“The CEO Nexus Forum was created to bring CEOs and C-level executives of second stage companies together to talk about their successes and challenges during their company’s growth process. Additionally, the forums give second-stage business owners unprecedented access to third- and fourth-level CEOs whom they may not otherwise have the opportunity to meet,” said Sandy Bartow, vice president of the Chamber’s Small Business Division and president of the Chamber Foundation. “The SSBD board selects accomplished CEOs, such as Karen, because mentoring is a proven method of educating people, especially if the person is revered and respected. Business owners perched on the cusp of their next big growth spurt often look up to those who have already weathered those storms and take their advice seriously.”

SSBD hosts quarterly CEO Nexus Forum events in January, April, July, and October. Guest speakers at the forums share their experiences about perseverance in the face of adversity, their company’s success, employee relationships, hiring the right staff, developing the right people within a company, and determining growth strategy. The events are open to any CEO or C-level executive who meets the SSBD criteria.
