Local businesswoman campaigns in honor of 20th Cancerversary

The chief operating officer of Calibrate CPAs, Amy Malerba, is celebrating her 20th year as an AML leukemiaAmy Malerba.small survivor, and in commemoration of this landmark she is running for “Woman of the Year.”

Malerba was diagnosed as a child with an adult form of leukemia know as AML. To this day her doctors refer to her as an “endangered species” since it is extremely rare for a child to survive this form of cancer. In commemoration of her “cancerversary” she is running for “Woman of the Year” and has a personal goal to raise one dollar from 20,000 people in celebration or her survivorship and awareness of childhood cancers.

The Northern Florida Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man & Woman of the Year Campaign (MWOY) is an individual fundraising campaign in which candidates raise funds to help find cures for blood cancers. Candidates are judged solely on their success in raising money $1 = 1 vote. The individuals who raise the most funds during the 10-week campaign will be awarded the title of the Northern Florida Chapter’s Man and Woman of the Year. The candidates compete in honor of the Boy and Girl of the Year, who are local blood cancer survivors. The campaign began at the Kickoff Reception on March 25, 2010, at the 5 Points Theatre and ends at the Grand Finale Celebration on June 3, 2010 at The Carling.
