brite sky logoBrite Sky Solar (www.briteskysolar.com) will host an open house and first year anniversary celebration on Friday, April 16, from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. The celebration will be at the company’s headquarters, 8613 Old Kings Rd. South, Bldg. 501 in Jacksonville. Classes, tours and demonstrations will be featured, along with experts who will speak on a variety of alternative energy topics.

Giveaways and door prizes will be offered, including two solar-powered emergency radios and a condenser cooling unit. The event is open to the public and there is no charge to participate. Light refreshments will be served, according to Greta Carter, Brite Sky Solar’s CEO.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m., a formal ribbon cutting will be held, featuring officers and members from the St. Johns and Duval County Chambers of Commerce as well as local dignitaries including Sarah Boren, executive director of the U.S. Green Building Council North Florida Chapter (USGBNF); John Shellhorn, sustainability officer, City of Jacksonville; and Stephen Joost, City of Jacksonville councilman at large.

Several 50-minute seminars will be held through the day:

• Living Green: Simple things to Get You Started. 10:15 a.m. Speaker: Sarah Boren.

• Solar Basics: Hot Water, Photovoltaic, and Lighting. 12 p.m. Speaker: David Reed, Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA).

• Photovoltaic Solar and Thermal Panels and Solar Lighting. 2 p.m. Speakers: Rick Wilker from Solar Lighting and James Terry from Velux Thermal Panels.

• Financing Your energy Initiatives. 4 p.m. Speakers: Representatives from Brite Sky Solar and Community First Credit Union.

According to Carter, customers are realizing the benefits of solar energy for the home and office and are using tankless or thermal water heaters as energy savers. “Property owners in northeast Florida continue to take advantage of a variety of state and federal rebate programs,” she said, adding, “We are excited to host the open house on April 16 and to educate, inspire and motivate individuals to learn more about alternative energy. We continue to lead the way in solar energy use in our area and believe that people are ready to use solar energy, especially with the myriad of federal and state incentives available.”
