LEIP seeks new sponsors

Small business owners seeking local economic data can download it at a free resource, the Local Economic Indicator Project (LEIP, www.leipjax.org). Now in its ninth year, LEIP is seeking and accepting more sponsors to help keep the project going, according to Paul Mason, founder of the project and economics professor at the University of North Florida.

“We have spent our annual budgets of about $15,000 per year almost exclusively on compensation to the students who collect the data, write the reports for the Florida Times-Union, and the LEIPLINE quarterly newsletter; and on data purchases from The Conference Board and other state and federal sources. The project reports data three times per month in the newspaper, and we have made numerous presentations about LEIP during the last eight years. We had three highly committed sponsors.” He explained that the sponsors are currently unable to recommit, so LEIP is asking for new sponsors to continue to provide local data to businesses and government entities.
