Dec. 8 workshop to encourage women entrepreneurs

Beaver Street Enterprise Center, the Small Business Development Center at UNF, and the Jacksonville Women’s Business Center are joining together to host  a workshop for women entrepreneurs Dec. 8 at the University of North Florida (UNF) University Center, 12000 Alumni Dr., Jacksonville. The workshop, whose goal is to enlighten and encourage women to pursue nontraditional roles and opportunities, will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Panelists include:

• Glenda Hunter, president and CEO of North Florida Electrical Contractors, Inc and the 2009 MEDWEEK Woman Owned Construction Firm of the Year. Hunter has firsthand experience in dealing with the highly cyclical construction industry.

 • Mary Tappouni, president  of Breaking Ground Contractors and the 2009 Small Business Person of the Year for the State of Florida. Tappouni’s company specializes in green building practices, and she is the co-author of the recently released children’s book Me and Green.

• Teresa Meares, CEO of DGG Taser & Tactical Supply Inc. and a 2009 Jacksonville Business Journal Woman of Influence. A retired sergeant from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, Meares’ company supplies law-enforcement equipment, SWAT supplies, tactical gear.

• Teresa Myers,CEO and president of Myers-Seth Pump, Inc. and a  2009 Jacksonville Business Journal Woman of Influence. Myers-Seth has manufactured industrial pumps for over 16 years. It also offers full project consulting services and a full pump rental operation.
