SDBC announces workshops for December and January

The Small Business Development Center at the University of North Florida (SBDC at UNF) has announced a numbersbdc of workshops for December and January to provide assistance through management advice and technical training with little to no-cost to the potential, fledgling, and/or well-established small business owners.

• How to S-T-A-R-T-U-P Your Own Business. Dec. 6, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Jan. 19, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. $40 in advance or $50 day of workshop.

Description: Thinking of starting a business?  This workshop will give you an overview of the seven basic requirements for business STARTUP.  A business startup kit for Duval and surrounding counties is included in the workshop fee.

 • Marketing 101. Dec. 3, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. $40 in advance; $50 day of workshop.  

Description:  Achieve your sales and marketing goals by understanding your product or services, customers, prospects and competitors.  This class is taught by a marketing professional.

• Major Gift Fundraising for Nonprofits. Dec. 11, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. $50 per person.

Description: The key to major gift solicitations is The Ask.  The Ask is the make-or-break component of a successful solicitation.  Regardless of the merits of the program or project, the relationship between solicitor and donor, or the amount of the request, The Ask is the one element that must be 100% perfect.  This three-hour workshop will feature actual practice in making The Ask, but will also cover: how to research prospects; understand when, where, who and how to make The Ask; and understanding the Value Proposition and Return on Investment scenario for each prospect.

• Tax Facts. Jan. 26, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. $40 in advance; $50 day of workshop.

Description: Would you like to learn how to make taxes a little more manageable for your business?  This workshop might be for you by learning the tax implications of your business structure, what is and is not deductible, electronic filing, payroll taxes, and more.  This workshop is co-sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service.
