Workshops provide hurricane preparedness info

The Mobile Assistance Center (MAC) of the Florida Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network’s is making a several stops inmac-side-viewsmall north Florida in conjunction with SBDC workshops on small how to prepare for hurricanes. Prior to the start of the workshops, the MAC will be open for tours.

The specially-equipped RV unit will be in the Northeast Florida area until early August. The MAC is able to serve two markets: post hurricane small businesses and rural clients who need help and can’t travel to visit SBDC locations. The MAC provides space for SBDC Certified Business Analysts to work with clients through paperwork and planning in the aftermath of a disaster and is equipped with satellite communications, wireless computers, small business libraries, and more.

The SBDC at UNF will be offering workshops for business owners to get their business ready before any storm hits.  An SBDC Certified Business Analyst, who has completed FEMA Disaster Resistant Job training and Emergency Management Certification through the Duval County Emergency Management Center, will present strategies and tools for disaster planning to help small businesses reduce economic damages and stay in business.  This is a hands-on, interactive presentation that helps small business owners get started on a plan.

The free workshops will be conducted:  

• July 30, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Beaver Street Enterprise Center, 1225 W. Beaver St.

• July 31, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., SBDC at UNF, UNF University Center – 12000 Alumni Dr.

• August 7, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m, Home Depot, 6346 Lane Ave.

• August 7, from 2 p.m. to 3:00 p.m… Home Depot, 12111 Lem Turner Road
