Key info on running small biz offered in SBDC seminars

Mark your calendar: The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the University of North Florida has scheduledsbdc a number of workshops aimed at helping small business owners run their companies successfully. Two of the upcoming workshops are free; the others are available for a small fee.

The free workshops include:

• The Upside of the Downturn, August 4, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., University Park Branch Library, 3435 University Blvd N. In this workshop, which was originally offered in July, participants explore the things within their control to get through the recession.

• Mastering e-mail communications, August 27, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., UNF University Center. This workshop shows participants best practices and winning strategies for getting and keeping quality e-mail subscribers, increasing deliverability and open rates, writing good headlines and content, saving time, getting readers to take action.

The SBDC offers a series of workshops on basic business skills. The cost for each workshop is $40 in advance or $50 at the door. Those who purchase four or more workshops in the Startup Series pay only $30 per workshop, and individuals who complete four workshops in this series receive a Small Business Certificate of Completion.

• Dollars & Sense: Business Recordkeeping Essentials, August 25, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
