IFF Chemical names new plant manager of operations

John Otterson will be the new manager of operations, planning and performance, for the International Flavors &ottersonsmall1 Fragrances, Inc. (IFF Chemical) plant in Jacksonville. IFF Chemical ( is a manufacturer of flavors and fragrances used in a wide variety of consumer products and packaged goods. The Jacksonville facility processes crude sulfate turpentine into chemicals for numerous applications.

Otterson’s primary responsibilities will be to oversee global supply inventory for fragrance ingredients produced in Jacksonville in order to match supply and demand for customers located in 40 countries. He will also be involved with plant performance, by analyzing and improving cost efficiency in procurement, production, logistics, and transportation.

“While operations planning and performance will be his focal point, John will be involved in most all areas of the plant operations as well as interfacing with sales and marketing,” Neil Wheeler, site manager, explained. “With his experience with so many of the departments within the company, he will be a real asset to our plant.”

Otterson had been with IFF Chemical for 20 years and returns after a brief stint in finance at Morgan Stanley. He has worked in almost every department of the company, including sales and marketing, quality, customer service, logistics, technical, and engineering. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a MBA in marketing.
