Golf tourney to support mental health awareness

An annual golf tournament, whose goal is to make area residents aware of the Northeast Florida State Hospital northeasthospital(NEFSH) and to heighten awareness of its mission, will be held October 5, 2009, at the Country Club of Orange Park, 2525 Country Club Blvd., Orange Park, Fl 32073. The tournament is being hosted by the Friends of Northeast Florida State Hospital, Inc.

According to Nick Masanko, chief investment officer for Gladiator Holdings, LLC one of tournament’s sponsors, the tournament, which is in its 19th year, aims to promote the importance of mental health as an essential part of overall health, to educate the public about the need for mental-health services, and to help promote National Mental Illness Awareness. The funds the tournament raises will help provide services that are not included in the state’s budget.

The $100-per-person fees for entering the tournament are tax-deductible. Tournament fees cover green fees and cart, tee bag, continental breakfast, door prizes, lunch, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverage. Awards will be made for low gross score; first, second, and third place low net scores; hole-in-one; and closest to the pin.

The format of the tournament, which is limited to 144 players, is Captain’s Choice, with team handicaps to be determined by totaling the four players’ handicaps and dividing by eight. Each player is limited to a 30 handicap. Both teams as well as individuals are welcome, said Masanko.
