Learn about new COBRA requirements

Three government agencies have pooled their resources to explain the provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (the stimulus package), as they relate to COBRA coverage.

The stimulus package provides for premium reductions and additional election opportunities for continuation coverage of health insurance under COBRA. Employers who offer health insurance and have 20 or more employees are required to offer COBRA coverage to employees who voluntarily or involuntarily terminate their jobs for any reason other than misconduct.

The U.S. Department of the Treasurer, Department of Labor, and the Internal Revenue Service have available a Webcast concerning new COBRA requirements, including the model notices and tax credit available to employers.
